Teen charged in mascot tackle
ROCK HILL, S.C., June 8 (UPI) -- Police in South Carolina say a teenager faces a simple assault charge after allegedly tackling another teen dressed as a giant ice cream cone.
Rock Hill police said a 17-year-old dressed as "Slappy," the ice cream cone mascot of Marble Slab ice cream parlors, was promoting the business in front of Dick's Sporting Goods at Manchester Village when a 16-year-old pulled up in a sport utility vehicle, tackled him and sped away in the vehicle, the Rock Hill Herald reported Tuesday.
Rock Hill police Lt. Brad Redfearn said the teen was not charged as an adult and will face a simple assault charge in family court.
Ring back on finger after 25 years
LAKELAND, Fla., June 8 (UPI) -- A Florida man who lost his class ring at a concert 25 years ago said it was returned to him by a man who worked at the event.
Mike Sabatino said he lost his Manatee High School ring during a fight at a Ted Nugent concert at the Lakeland Civic Center when he was a teenager, Bay News 9, St. Petersburg, Fla., reported Tuesday.
"During the song 'Cat Scratch Fever,' there's a group of guys that decided they didn't like me or something and kinda roughed me up pretty good," Sabatino said.
He said he never expected to see the ring again until his sister, Wendy, recently received a message on Facebook.
"When Cosmo Wilson, a stage hand, was breaking down stage, he saw it and picked it up," Sabatino said. "He kept it all of these years."
Wilson said he hung onto the ring instead of throwing it away in the hopes of someday locating its owner. He said he recently decided to post a description of the ring on Facebook and the responses led him to try to contact Sabatino through Wendy.
Sabatino said he is hoping he will soon be able to meet in person with Wilson, who now tours the world as a lighting director for bands including the Rolling Stones.
Police: Underwear thief arrested at church
ELYRIA, Ohio, June 8 (UPI) -- Police in Ohio said they arrested a man praying in a church after he allegedly stole four packages of underwear from a store.
Elyria police said Marques Jeter, 24, took four packages of underwear from a Family Dollar store about 4:50 p.m. Sunday and struck the manager in the face after she asked to see his receipt, The (Lorain) Morning Journal reported Tuesday.
The police report said Jeter pushed two customers out of the way as he fled the store.

A 16-year-old has been petitioned to York County Family Court for last weekend's alleged attack on a Marble Slab mascot, Rock Hill police say.
Rock Hill Police Lt. Brad Redfearn said the teen has not been charged as an adult. He will go to Family Court in reference to simple assault, and a judge will determine the punishment.
