This update of Holden’s best seller focuses on small incremental changes as you would expect with a car that is right on top of it games. The company has taken a “If it aint broke don’t fix it” approach and there was little that needed fixing with this car, and the small things that did, have been put right. The changes to the Series 2 Commodore are largely limited to a bit of cosmetic tinkering, some new technology and the ability of the 3.0 litre engine to run on environmentally friendly bio-ethanol. Great for Australian buyers, where this fuel is freely available unlike this side of the Tasman, where it still has a way to go to become a mainstream fuel. A much greater emphasis has gone on multimedia features than ever before and there had to be, so the Commodore could stay in touch with the advances being made in this area by most of its rivals. The jewel in the cars multimedia crown is an all-new infotainment system delivering full Bluetooth®, USB, iPod® and MP3 player integration that is all easily controlled via an easy to use touch screen mounted in the centre console.

Visually Holden have resisted the temptation to meddle with the cars styling, with the only visual changes over the previous model being a new front fascia, grille and headlamp treatments across the range. Up market models such as the $66,790 Calais V-Series supplied for this road test benefit from a number of in-cabin enhancements that further cement its position on the top rung of the Commodore ladder. These include leather seats and leather wrap gear selector, a 9-speaker sound system and 8-way electric adjustment of the front seats. Outside projector headlamps cut through the dark like a laser beam, while 19-inch machined alloys are wheel eye catchers.

The introduction of new generation direct injection engines to the Commodore range about 18 months ago have transformed the cars performance and fuel economy. The larger 220kw 3.6 litre version of this motor used in the Calais is smooth and refined with excellent throttle response and unlike Holden sixes from days gone by, this one feels strong and sounds good when pushed over 5,000rpm. With so much pulling power in the low to mid rev range there is really know need to work the motor hard, although it is nice to know that it has the ability if required. This engine adds another layer or two of refinement that makes the Calais a serious large luxury car alternative to a number of models in the six digit price bracket.

Mp3DirectCut is a small tool for editing MP3 files directly, without any quality loss to the original file. You can remove parts, change the volume, split files or copy regions to several new files. I was able to split a large MP3 file by using the "Set Begin" & "Set End" buttons within the "Edit" section of the program, located in the bottom left hand corner. <br/> <br/>Previous work with VirtualDub editing, helped me jump on this way of wokring. You can always reset the beginning and end points...and simply export the selection as an MP3 with the "Save Selection" command within the "File" menu option. <br/> <br/>A short-tip: once you've selected your selection points don't click on the wav format because it will reset them and mess up your hard work.
