Preview: Three Twinbills Anchor Nine-Race Lineup
HAMPTON, Va. -- Doubleheaders for the KeesVacations.com Modifieds, Larry King Law Super Trucks and the Virginia Mini Cups top a huge nine-race slate this Saturday, Aug. 6, as Langley Speedway continues its 2011 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series campaign with Quaker Steak & Lube Night.Saturdays crowded feature lineup includes: Modifieds (Twin 25s); Heritage Motor Co. Super Streets (40 laps); Super Trucks (Twin 20s); EZ Auto of Newport News UCARs (25 laps); Standard Welding Pro Sixes (30 laps); and, the Virginia Mini Cup Racing Association (Twin 15s).
Front gates open at 2 p.m., just as afternoon practice gets under way. A drivers meeting is scheduled for 4:15, followed by time trials at 4:30. Pre-race activities begin at 6:55 and the first Mini Cup race goes green shortly after 7.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, 6-12. Military personnel (active-duty or retired) and seniors (60+) receive a $2 discount off the regular adult ticket price. Little Race Fans (under 6) are admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Family Packs, which include two adult and two kids tickets, are $25 a savings of $5.
Advance tickets may be purchased in the Speedway office during normal business hours or through the tracks Web site .
Defending Mod champ Shawn Balluzzo heads into this weekends Twin 25s with a 46-point lead over Chris Johnson in the current division standings. Cameron Patrick ranks third, 22 down to Johnson.
For weeks, Balluzzo has vigorously touted the competitiveness of the Modified class. And, the on-track results seem to back him up. Through 12 events, the division has produced five different race winners Balluzzo, Patrick, Mike Rudy, Anthony Kincaid and Mark Slye, who swept last Saturdays Twins.
In the Super Street division, two-time titlist Randy Sample enters Saturdays 40-lapper on a two-race winning streak. Meanwhile, Ritchie German has taken advantage of two straight sixth-place runs by Ryan Nester to open a 26-point lead in the standings. Sean Calway is 12 behind Nester, in third. Sample, who has won three of the four races that he has started, is eighth.
Five-time race winner Tommy Nixon holds a 28-point lead over 2010 champ Robbie Davis in the current Super Truck standings. Third-place Troy Turnage trails Davis by six.
Landon Florian guns for his seventh win in eight races when the UCARs hit the track on Saturday evening.
